7 Quick Snack Box Ideas for School-going Kids

With children back in school, eating well continues to be important so they get enough nutrients and energy for the long hours. For primary school kids, snack breaks are usually just 10 - 15 minutes daily, and it’s a good opportunity to pack healthy food in their snack boxes.

We know how time-pressed weekday mornings are for multi-tasking parents. TADA Fresh Market heard you – check out our quick and healthy snack box ideas you can prepare for your kiddos!

PSST: We have listed them down accordingly to prep time - it can be as quick as just 2 minutes!

#1: Fresh Fruits

Bite-sized whole fruits that require zero cutting are the best time savers! Order your fresh fruits and have them delivered so you save even more time by doing the groceries online. Simply cart out fresh berries, wash and pack and you’re done! Your child’s immunity booster gets amped up with her daily dose of vitamins A, C and E and more! Choose fresh US air-flown strawberries fraises or Australian strawberries, blueberries, seedless grapes, pomegranates, and US air-flown large cherries. Don’t forget those cherry tomatoes too or just put in a banana with its skin on.

Time needed: 2 minutes, just wash and pack in snack box!

#2: Dried Fruits and Nuts

Nuts offer wholesome nutrients such as proteins, fibre and are loaded with antioxidants that growing children need. Dried fruits make a convenient option minus the wet mess some fresh fruits may end up with after being tossed around in the school bag. With both options, they offer a variety of flavours and bite for kids’ chewing experience. Go with mixed nuts or add nuts that your child likes. Pick from US airflown pine nuts, US walnuts, California almonds, pecans, big cashew nuts. Other dried fruit favourites among kids includes golden raisins and dried mango too.

Time needed: 2 minutes, just pour out the desired amount for your kid!

*Skip nuts if your child has nut allergy.

#3: Veggie Sticks

Does your little boss like raw veggies? Cut carrots, cucumbers and celery into handy sticks and they are perfect finger food for crunchy treats! Just click online to order our fresh produce and have them delivered to your home so you don’t need to lug heavy groceries!

#4: Homemade Vegetable Chips

There are baked vegetable snacks which can be bought off the shelves. If you prefer to make these healthy treats, all you need are your choice of fresh vegetables available with our wet market delivery service, some salt or food seasonings and an oven or an air fryer. Zucchini, sweet potato and kale make great healthy chips. Simply slice zucchini or sweet potato thinly / cut kale leaves into small pieces, sprinkle a pinch of fine salt and and bake them at 180 degrees Celsius until they’re brown and crisp (or about 10 minutes).

Time needed: 10 - 15 minutes, including baking time!

#5: Homemade Hummus Dips

How about some dips to go with those vegetable sticks in point 3? Hummus dips are a rich and creamy source of plant-based proteins and healthy fats. Homemade hummus is really easy to make with chickpeas and a food processor. Or, simply buy freshly-made Hummus from our vendor at 216 Bedok market!

Quick-cooking bite-sized chicken or nuggets are a great way to include meat proteins into our kids’ daily snack boxes. If you’re planning to make chicken fingers from scratch, order fresh chicken thighs (you can choose if you’d like to have them without bones and skin too) from our wet market vendors online and have them delivered to your doorstep. Cut them into desired sizes and marinate them overnight. The next morning, simply coat with instant oats or breadcrumbs and pan fry them or use the air fryer as a healthier cooking option. Frozen chicken nuggets and frozen fish nuggets are convenient options to help busy parents save time too! Simply airfry or deep fry in a wok and they are ready in minutes!

Time needed: 15 - 20 minutes, just wait for your online groceries to be delivered and prepare the recipe!

#7: Baked Egg Muffins aka Frittatas

This egg-cellently versatile snack idea is a popular favourite because just about any ingredients can be added to make it extra wholesome. Some parents take this chance to hide veggies in it! Or, you can simply add what your child loves: shredded cheese, Australian broccoli, grated Aussie tri-coloured carrots, Australian minced beef, sliced fresh shiitake mushrooms… the choice is yours, or what’s available in your fridge! To make baked egg muffins, simply place ingredients in pre-oiled muffin tray, pour beaten egg (you can get these Omega-3 enriched eggs from our local farms!) and fresh milk (equal ratio of both liquids) to fill about 80% and bake for 10 – 15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius.
